Kim Paterson with The Mike Nock Trio

Lake Rd

Mike Nock & I first met when we were both 16.
I had left home to follow my musical journey
and went for a time to live with my birth mother.
I’d met Mike at a gig he was playing. He’d just
arrived in Auckland & was obviously already an
awesome player.
He was living not far from my mother’s place
so we started hanging out. I had not been playing
long and he encouraged me. It was very
helpful to my development as a player as he
represented the direction I wished to follow.
After he left NZ for Australia he would
return from time to time and we would jam together.
Then his journey took him to the U.K. —Ronnie Scott’s etc
and then to the U.S. to study at Berklee and his
remarkable career playing & recording with
all the leading U.S. jazz artists.
We have kept in touch over the years, playing a number
of jazz festivals in Aust. and NZ and recording
together also.
Cameron Undy on bass & Nick McBride were part of
Mike’s trio for a number of years and I was
fortunate to play festivals and record with the
trio in Aus & NZ over several years.
Needless to say Mike has been a huge part of my
musical life and I am so grateful to be able to
release some of the material we’ve recorded together.
Nathan Haines has been a close friend for many years.
We also have toured, played festivals and recorded
together. I’m happy that I can release some of his
beautiful flute playing and singing.
